The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) have proven to be a crucial factor to decreasing the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) into the atmosphere. However, there are various hurdles that impede people from purchasing EVs. For example, long charging time, short driving range, cost and insufficient charging infrastructures available, etc. This article reports the public perception of EV-adoption using statistical analyses and proposes some recommendations for improving EV-adoption in Qatar. User perspectives on EV-adoption barriers in Qatar were investigated based on survey questionnaires. The survey questionnaires were based on similar studies done in other regions of the world. The study attempted to look at different perspectives of the adoption of EV, when asked to a person who is aware of EVs (technical respondents—people studying/working at universities/research centers and policy makers) or a person who may or may not be aware of EVs (non-technical respondents—people working in banks, governments and private non-academic organizations, etc.). Cumulative survey responses from the two groups were compared and analyzed using two-sample t-test statistical analysis. Detailed analyses showed that—among various major hindrances—raising of public awareness of such greener modes of transportation, the availability of charging options in more places and policy incentives towards EVs would play a major role in EV-adoption. The authors provide recommendations that—along with government incentives—could help make a gradual shift to a greater number of EVs convenient for people of Qatar. The proposed systematic approach for such a study and analysis may help in streamlining research on policies, infrastructures and technologies for efficient penetration of EVs in Qatar.

There have been various barriers such as range anxiety, technology resistance, long charging time, lack of infrastructure, uncertainty, safety, and price to mass household adoption of electric vehicles. Technology adoption and diffusion have gained much attention in many applications of agent-based model. This study attempts to investigate the adoption and diffusion of electric vehicles under a various scenarios in an artificial society. This agent-based model incorporates word of mouth effect, socio-demographic information, incentives, and social network effect including threshold model. The adoption and diffusion model of electric vehicles is developed not only to explore heterogeneous agents' behaviors whether or not to make a decision to adopt an electric vehicle based on agent's socio-demographic attributes, driving habit, and gas price, but to provide some measures by sensitivity analysis to help electric vehicle manufactures and policy makers in their decision-making. The preliminary simulation results present agent's decision change over time as a result of interactions among agents and between agents and environment, and suggest that the price of an electric vehicle and gas price are significant factors in the adoption of electric vehicles rather than government financial incentives.

This introduction abstract provides a concise overview of the key aspects and considerations surrounding the establishment of EVCSS. The abstract begins by highlighting the exponential growth of the electric vehicle market and the consequent need for a reliable charging network. It explores the various types of charging stations, including slow charging, fast charging, and ultra-fast charging, each catering to different charging requirements and time constraints. Moreover, the abstract delves into the importance of strategically locating charging stations to maximize convenience for EV owners, such as near residential areas, commercial centers, and major transportation hubs. The Indian automobile industry is undergoing a paradigm shift with the increasing focus on Electric Vehicles (EVs). Driven by the dual objectives of reducing carbon emissions and minimizing dependence on fossil fuels, India is witnessing a growing interest in EVs among consumers, manufacturers, and policymakers. This study explores the current landscape of electric vehicles in India, focusing on the opportunities for growth, such as government support, technological advancement, and environmental benefits, as well as the challenges, including infrastructure limitations, high costs, and consumer skepticism. Using primary and secondary data sources, this research provides an analytical understanding of India's readiness for an EV revolution and offers strategic suggestions to accelerate adoption. The 21st century has witnessed a transformative shift in the global transportation landscape, driven by the urgent need to mitigate environmental degradation, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and adopt sustainable technologies. Among the most promising innovations in this domain is the development and adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs). These vehicles offer a cleaner and greener alternative to conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and noise levels. In the context of India, one of the fastest-growing economies with a population exceeding 1.4 billion, the transition to electric mobility presents both immense opportunities and significant challenges. India’s transportation sector is currently a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and urban air pollution. With increasing urbanization and motorization, the demand for personal and commercial vehicles is rising rapidly, exacerbating environmental concerns. At the same time, India imports more than 80% of its crude oil requirements, leading to substantial economic burden and energy insecurity. In this scenario, Electric Vehicles have emerged as a strategic solution, aligning with India’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and its broader goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. The Indian government has been proactive in promoting EV adoption through initiatives like the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme, offering incentives, subsidies, and tax benefits to consumers and manufacturers alike. State governments have also introduced EV policies aimed at encouraging local manufacturing, creating charging infrastructure, and increasing public awareness. Moreover, the falling costs of lithium-ion batteries, technological advancements, and the rising popularity of shared mobility platforms are further strengthening the EV ecosystem. Despite these favorable developments, India’s EV market is still at a nascent stage, accounting for only a small fraction of the overall automobile sales. The path to widespread EV adoption is hindered by several critical challenges, such as inadequate charging infrastructure, high initial costs, limited driving range, battery performance concerns, and lack of consumer awareness. These factors have created a gap between policy ambitions and actual ground-level adoption, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. This study aims to critically examine the opportunities and challenges associated with the adoption of electric vehicles in India. It explores the current status of the EV industry, government policies, market trends, consumer perception, technological barriers, and the socio-economic implications of a shift toward electric mobility. By analyzing both primary data from stakeholders and secondary sources including industry reports and academic studies, this research endeavors to provide a holistic understanding of the electric vehicle landscape in India. The findings of this study will be valuable for policymakers, automobile manufacturers, environmentalists, and consumers alike. It will not only shed light on the practical obstacles that need to be addressed but also offer strategic recommendations to accelerate the growth of electric vehicles in India. Ultimately, the transition to electric mobility is not merely a technological change—it represents a fundamental shift toward a more sustainable, energy- efficient, and environmentally responsible future.

How Shenzhen, China pioneered the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in a major city: Implications for global implementation

The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is an important way to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The city of Shenzhen, in southern China, has focused on developing policies to encourage EV implementation over the past decade and now has the most EVs of any city in the world, including the largest e‐bus and e‐taxi fleets. This paper reviews Shenzhen's innovative incentive policies and business models with respect to the potential for other cities and regions to learn from the city's experiences. Subsidies for the purchase and use of EVs, the construction of charging facilities, and the provision of services followed an inverse U‐shaped trend that initially rose to encourage early adoption before decreasing as the market matured. Additional incentives included preferential vehicle licensing, parking privileges, and road access. Furthermore, the city adopted a business model that incentivized cooperation between third‐party financial institutions, EV manufacturers, and charging facility operators to reduce the initial financial burden and risk of EV adoption by pooling purchasing power through leasing and vehicle sharing while disassociating vehicle and battery maintenance. Although Shenzhen's experience has unique aspects that cannot easily be replicated, such as a strong financial position of the government, it offers two important lessons for other cities around the globe: (a) incentivize the whole EV value chain in order to avoid bottlenecks and (b) use innovative business models that mobilize both public and private resources by distributing both risks and rewards.This article is categorized under: Energy and Transport > Economics and Policy Energy and Transport > Economics and Policy Energy Research and Innovation > Climate and Environment

DEFINING PATTERNS OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE USER CHARGING BEHAVIOR: URBANICITY & SERVICE

Policymakers regularly intensify efforts to increase electric vehicle (EV) adoption to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by the transportation sector. Despite various incentives, EV adoption has certain drawbacks, including limited ranges, long charging times, and sparse electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) infrastructure. Access to EVs is often a privilege for specific communities, causing inequity in adoption and access to public charging infrastructure. To enable a user-centered and equitable deployment of EVSE infrastructure, a detailed understanding of EV charging behavior and its different facets is crucial. This research establishes a holistic approach to understanding user behavior using real-world charging data collected at various public and residential EVSE networks. Throughout this work, multivariate charging session data is analyzed for EV user charging behavior using various statistical methods, advanced algorithms, and time series analysis. This novel and holistic approach to understanding charging station utilization offers new insights into EVSE network service level requirements and explains the relationship between charging behavior, urbanicity, and locale. The findings of this work indicate that significant differences in charging behavior between charging networks exist. An urban-rural divide in charging station utilization is identified, which is inconsistent throughout different areas and regions. Users from rural areas charge further away from their homes than urban users, indicating a lack of EVSE in rural areas and supporting the existence of an urban-rural divide in EVSE access. Charging behavior is further found to differ significantly between provinces, especially regarding intensity and etiquette. The results show that longer charging times usually concur with lower charging frequencies, reducing the service level and profitability of EVSE. Residential and public charging demand follows an inverse daily pattern, represented by a bi-daily switch in peak station utilization. While public charging demand times are concentrated during the day, residential EVSE is mainly used in the evening and throughout the night. The switch in charging demand proposed the “EV Duck Curve” and suggests that residential charging behavior can increase the renewable energy “Duck Curve” issue, which may be further amplified by a future increase in public direct current fast charger deployment. This work aims to demonstrate the differences in human charging behavior in various contexts by applying robust and multifaceted methods. Current EV charging behavior research lacks a holistic approach that incorporates various types and locations of charging networks when exploring user behavior. This research suggests that findings on charging behavioral patterns in one network are not transferable

This research investigates the factors influencing the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) among public service vehicle operators in Kenya. The study employs a descriptive survey design, encompassing 212 public vehicle operators in the country. The primary objectives include assessing the impact of cost, infrastructure development, knowledge, and social-cultural factors on the adoption of EVs by public service vehicle operators in Kenya. The study conducted in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with a selected subset of participants to gain deeper insights into the qualitative aspects of the study. The study reveals that cost, infrastructure development, knowledge, and social-cultural factors collectively influence the adoption landscape. High upfront costs and operational expenses pose significant barriers, emphasizing the need for financial incentives and supportive policies to make EVs more economically viable. Infrastructure development, particularly the establishment of a robust charging network, is crucial to alleviate range anxiety and enhance the practicality of EVs. Knowledge gaps among operators highlight the importance of educational programs and training initiatives to enhance understanding and promote the benefits of electric vehicles. Social-cultural factors, such as attitudes and perceptions, also shape adoption patterns, emphasizing the need for awareness campaigns to address misconceptions. In conclusion, a comprehensive strategy involving financial incentives, infrastructure development, knowledge dissemination, and cultural sensitization is recommended to foster the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in Kenya's public service transportation sector

Accelerating the rate of electric vehicle (EV) adoption is an objective of many countries to mitigate and ameliorate negative externalities arising from the use of fossil fuels for personal motorised transportation including: greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, air pollution and noise, as well as increasing energy security and reducing budget deficits. Within the dynamic field of EVs, this paper highlights strategic directions for policy makers to increase EV uptake. The paper critically reviews measures adopted by some industrialised countries to motivate consumer purchase of EVs rather than conventional internal combustion vehicles (ICVs). A key focus is the role of financial and soft incentives to encourage EV adoption. The analysis reveals that not all incentives are equally effective; an adequate recharger network appears to be a common concerning factor for EV adoption due to customer anxiety and vehicle limitations. Best practice strategies that could foster a faster transition to EV adoption include appropriate legislation, installation and maintenance of an adequate public recharger network, government procurement programs, and investment in information programs to accelerate the transition towards fossil free driving. The paper evidences how implementation of these strategies can affect overall adoption rates.

Abstract: The rapid transition towards sustainable mobility has positioned electric vehicles (EVs) as a key solution to reducing environmental impact and promoting clean transportation. This research undertakes an integrated study to examine both the adoption of electric vehicles and the satisfaction levels of EV users in Tumkur District, Karnataka. The study aims to analyze usage behavior and the key factors influencing the decision to adopt EVs among urban and rural consumers. Further, it evaluates consumer satisfaction based on technological aspects (battery performance, charging infrastructure, vehicle range), economic considerations (cost of ownership, maintenance expenses, subsidies), and environmental consciousness (carbon footprint awareness, eco-friendly attitudes). A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving structured surveys and in-depth interviews with EV owners, dealerships, and stakeholders. The findings reveal a significant correlation between awareness levels, government incentives, and adoption rates, while satisfaction varies based on user expectations, availability of charging stations, and perceived performance. The study offers strategic insights for policymakers, manufacturers, and service providers to enhance the EV ecosystem and improve customer experience in semi-urban and rural contexts. The impact of electric vehicle adoption on regional energy market integration in China

The widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has sparked significant interest in its potential to transform the energy landscape. This study examines the impact of EV adoption on regional energy market integration (EMI) based on data from China, and combines with threshold models to explore the mechanism in terms of electricity consumption, supply, and generation side. We find that EV adoption promotes China's EMI, and this effect remains robust after addressing endogeneity issues and conducting a series of robustness tests. Moreover, EV adoption has threshold effects on EMI, which is manifested as a single threshold effect of energy system electrification, a single threshold effect of inter‐provincial electricity trading, and a double threshold effect of renewable energy generation. The maximum benefits can be achieved when these factors exceed certain threshold values. Further analysis reveals that electricity system reform and EV subsidy policies positively moderate the effect of EV adoption on EMI, and EMI exhibits benefits in reducing market concentration and decreasing carbon dioxide emissions in the energy sector. These findings offer valuable insights into how the increasing prevalence of EVs shapes the broader paradigm of EMI.
