Abstract

Energy audit plays an important role in energy conservation and is an efficient method for any energy auditor to calculate losses in the system and estimate various methods to minimize and overcome those losses. The process of energy audit is analytical, arranged, efficient, precise and thoroughgoing and uses a methodological approach to identify and check the usage and wastage of energy and hence attempts to reduce energy requirements. This paper presents the results of a case study done based on energy audit performed at 220/100/22 KV Kandalgaon substation. The identification of major energy consuming areas served as key feature during audit walk through. This energy audit study is mainly focused on the energy consuming area such as lighting system used in existing substation. The existing lighting system used in the yard is HPS, mercury vapor lamps that consumes high amount of energy in auxiliary load of substation. By replacing this existing system with LED lights, energy as well as cost can be saved. A picture of substation's energy profile can be presented by energy audit.
