Abstract

Objective: Placental chorioangiomas are benign vascular tumors and comparatively rare disease with one example in 3500–9000 birth. We present our case of chorioangioma which performed cesarean section for fetal cardiac failure in 28 gestational weeks. Case: The patient was 43-year-old woman, 2 gravida 2 para, and was introduced to our hospital, because polyhydramnious and a placental tumor detected by ultrasonography at by 26 gestational weeks. Fetal ascites, subcutaneic edema of fetal head and echogenic bowel were observed by ultrasonography. Prenatal diagnosis of the tumor was placental angioma due to ultrasonographic and MRI findings. The condition of hydrops fetalis was getting worse and cesarean section was performed at 28 gestational weeks. The patient delivered a female baby of 1.288g and her haemoglobin was 5.7g/dl. Macroscopically, the mass of placenta was soft and area of surface was 13×13cm. The histopathological diagnosis was chorioangioma. The neonate had performed blood transfusion because of severe anemia. The neonate had cardiac hypertrophy, however, she did not fall into critical condition. The progress of the neonate was good afterwards. Conclusion: We experienced a case of the hydrops fetalis associated with chorioanginoma. The neonate was delivered before her cardiac condition got worse because of careful and frequent observation by ultrasonography. If chorioanginoma is found, it is necessary to evaluate fetal circulatory condition.
