Abstract

We experienced a rare case of primary leiomyosarcoma of the mesentery. A 67-year-old man was admitted to the clinic because of a lower abdominal mass. The mass was fist sized and movable in the lower abdomen. Abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed an irregular shaped tumor with a clear margin and a heterogeneous inside pattern. Magnetic resonance imaging showed the tumor enhanced strongly with magnebist. Upper G.I. series and Barium enema examination showed no abnormal shadow. We suspected a leiomyosarcoma of the mesentery and operated on. During a lapar-otomy, two tumors 14cm and 3cm in longer diameter with a pedicle arising in the sigmoid mesentery were found. The two tumors were easily extripated by dissecting the pedicle from the mesentery. Pathological findings showed the tumor being epithelioid leiomyosarcoma.
