Abstract

Objective Reporting a case of maxillary sinus augmentation implant with maxillary sinus cyst, to summarize the treatment experiences for the patients. Methods Before maxillary sinus augmentation, CBCT showed the edentulous maxillary sinus with low density shadow, diagnosed as maxillary sinus cyst. The cyst was removed completely 10 months after the augmentation due to the observation of buccal bone defect and exploration of the cyst wall. The saline and gentamycin were used to irrigate the maxillary sinus and the platelet rich fibrin (PRF) membrane was placed on the bone defect site. Result Six months after implantation, CBCT showed stable osseointegration and no recurrence of cyst. Conclusions In such cases as our reported, the cyst should be removed promptly if the cyst is exposed at the time of implantation, in order to prevent the cyst from affecting the osseointegration of the implant.
