Abstract

A case of squamous cell carcinoma of the breast is reported with some discussion from a review of the literature. The case was a 61-year-old woman complaining of a lump of the left breast. The lump with a comparatively sharp edge was elastic hard and located in the outside of upper part of the left breast. She was pointed out of a cystic tumor of the breast by ultrasonography and aspiration biopsy cytology resulted in class V, highly suggestive of squamous cell carcinoma. The patient received a left standard radical mastectomy on February 21 1990. The tumor was 3.5×3.0×2.5cm in size and squamous cell carcinoma of the breast histologically. There was no problem in the postoperative course and the patient was discharged from the hospital on the 23rd postoperative day. No tumor has recurred for three years and six months after the operation. The patient is followed on an ambulant basis. Preoperative serum squamous cell carcinoma related antigen (SCC) was below 1.0ng/ml within normal range.
