Abstract

A 31-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital for traumatic scars in the left upper lip and forehead for more than 4 years and localized plaques for 3 months.Skin examination revealed 2 slightly erythematous,well-marginated,indurated plaques sized 2 cm × 3.5 cm and 1.5 cm × 1.5cm respectively in the left upper lip and forehead.Histopathology of the lesions revealed varying sizes of cell clumps composed of epithelioid cells and a few multinucleated giant cells in the dermis, while no obvious caseous necrosis was found. In addition, periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)staining, periodic acid methenamine silver (PAM) staining and acid-fast staining were negative.Laboratory tests revealed no abnormality in other organ systems. The patient was diagnosed with scar sarcoidosis, and treated with laser resurfacing as well as oral methylprednisolone, pidotimod and azithromycin, which resulted in a satisfactory outcome. After one-year follow-up,the lesion was flattened with a return to normal skin colour.
