Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical and pathological features of plexiform schwannoma in top-thigh. Methods A case of plexiform schwannoma in top-thigh was reported and the related literatures were reviewed. Results The patient (female, 63 years old) came to hospital because a mass was found in the top of her left thigh. After being hospitalized, routine laboratory tests were taken and the mass was removed completely. Pathological examination showed a multinodular mass in the deep dermis and every nodule had complete envelope; besides there was loose fibrous stroma between nodules. The nodule was composed of spindle cells in which verocay corpuscles and mitotic figures could be seen occasionally. Immunohistochemistry showed that S-100 protein was positive, while SMA, NK, and Ki-67 negative. Finally, the pathologic diagnosis was plexiform schwannoma. Conclusions Plexiform schwannoma is a kind of rare peripheral nerve tumor, which has special pathological characteristics. Plexiform schwannoma should be identified from plexiform neurofibroma during our clinical work. Key words: Plexiform schwannoma; Pathology
