Abstract

We experienced a case of basal cell adenoma, a rare tumor of salivary glands. A 48-year-old man came to our hospital for a left subaural tumor as CC. Tumorectomy was carried out under a diagnosis of left parotid tumor. The tumor was found surrounded with fibrous capsule, in association with cystic formation. Histologically, the lumen presented ductal formation filled with acidophil substances, diagnosis being made as basal cell adenoma of tubular type.Basal cell adenoma, which represents about 2% of all sialotumors, is prevalent for females and for aged persons over 50 years old. Although we often have difficulties in the preoperative diagnosis, basal cell adenoma is often associated with cystic formation, and therefore, when the cystic formation can be confirmed by preoperative tests, it should be born in mind as an important approach to differential diagnosis.
