Abstract

A 16-year-old man was seen at the hospital because of upper abdominal pain, and admitted with adiagnosis of intestinal obstruction. On the second day after admission, the abdominal pain intensified and ascites appeared. Laparotomy was carried out with the diagnosis of strangulation ileus. The intestinal loop was strangul ated by a cord. The necrosed intestine and the cord were resected. The cord appered to be vitellin cyst. In this case, there was no inflamation, any cord reaching to the abdominal wall, nor inhasion in the vitellin cyst itself, but the vitellin cyst winded itself round the small intestine forming a knot to strangulate it. It presented an extremely specific morphology. Such cases are so rare. As for even Meckel's diverticulum which is representative vitellin duct rest, so far only six foreign cases and two domestic cases have been seen. No cases of strunglation ileus due to vitellincyt like in this case have been reported as far as we could review.
