Abstract

Botulism is a rare pathology caused by a neurotoxin produced by bacteria of the genus Clostridium, responsible of a clinical condition characterized by flaccid paralysis and autonomic dysfunctions. Some forms, called infantile botulism, are secondary to the colonization of Clostridium botulinum spores in the gut of children and the subsequent production of the toxin. The reason why only some children develop the clinical condition is not clear.
