Abstract

A very rare postoperative complication following posterior chamber lens (PCL) implantation, ‘in-the-bag’ hyphaema, is reported. A 64-year-old female with senile cataract underwent PCL implantation using an intercapsular technique without removal of the anterior capsule. On the third postoperative day, a hyphaema developed, and extended on the PCL and the intact anterior capsule. On the eighth postoperative day, the blood accumulated in the capsular bag between the PCL and posterior capsule and formed a niveau. It disappeared 3.5 months after topical anticoagulant application without any complications. This unusual hyphaema was caused by the capsular bag with the upper wide opening.
