Abstract

We report a case of giant leiomyoma in the esophagocardiac junction which was succesfully treated by the excision of the tumor nucleus. A 35-year-old female without any symptoms was pointed out a torose lesion in the lower esophagus by mass screening examination. The patient was diagnosed as having an esophageal leiomyoma by esophagogastric transillumination, endoscopy, ulrasonoscopy and biopsy. Laparotomy and excision of the tumor nucleus were undertaken. The excised tumor was 11.5×5.0×2.0 cm in size. The histopathological findings indicated benign leiomyoma.By view of the literature, lower esophagectomy and upper gastrectomy have been frequently undertaken to the leiomoyma in the esophagocardiac junction, but to keep the function of esophagocardiac junction excision of the tumor nucleus should be positively performed.
