Abstract

Epigastric hernia is rare in Japan. We describe a case of epigastric hernia in a patient receiving CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis). A 62-year-old male was admitted to the hospital because of peritonitis probably caused by CAPD. He had been maintaining CAPD for chronic renal failure for 2 years and had noticed an upper abdominal mass since CAPD had started. Operation was performed, because he had uneasy feeling about the abdominal mass. Under local infiltration anesthesia, a median incision over the hernial mass was made and the hernial mass was exposed. Epigastric hernia with a orifice of 3mm in diameter was found in the linea alba at 3cm caudal side above the umbilicus. Hernia sac was the peritoneum and there was no hernia content. High ligation of the hernial sac and closure of the hernial orifice were performed. Postoperative course was uneventful.
