Abstract
Diffuse infiltrative carcinoma of the large intestine is uncommon and the prognosis is very poor. A recent case of this disease showed rapid growing of the tumor as well as previous cases experienced at the department is described. A 55-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with a one-month history of constipation and anal pain. Barium enema examination showed stenosis 3cm in length in the rectum. On admission, digital examination was performed by the finger and a diagnosis of diffuse infiltrative carcinoma was made. Ten days later, however, on the colon fiber examination, digital examination was inposible because of adbance of the stenosis. Miles' operation was carried out, resulting in non-curative resection because of positive surgical margine. Chemotherpy with 5“-DFUR is started after the operation. There has been no sign of recurrence as of 3 month after the surgery. The patient is enjoying disease-free dailyb life.
