Abstract

Cases of patients with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)-producing tumors have been reported involving several types of malignant tumors, and these cases were associated with rapid tumor growth and poor clinical prognosis. We report a case of complete response to concurrent chemoradiation against a recurrent, G-CSF-producing cervical cancer. A 62-year-old woman had severe leukocytosis (>50 × 103/μl), lumbago and fever (>39 °C) without evidence of infection after radical hysterectomy for treatment of her stage IB2 cervical cancer 3 months previously. The recurrent pelvic mass was 8 cm in diameter. Her serum level of G-CSF was extremely high, and immunohistochemical analysis revealed that G-CSF existed in the tumor cells. The patient is alive 9 years after the concurrent chemoradiation without evidence of recurrence. This case strongly indicates that the tumor produced G-CSF. Concurrent chemoradiation was extremely effective for G-CSF-producing, recurrent cervical cancer.
