Abstract

Adenosquamous carcinoma of the large intestine is believed to be a relatively rare disease. We examined one case of adenosquamous carcinoma of the cecum. A 77-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a main complaint of ileus. She was diagnosed as having carcinoma of the cecum by radiography of the small intestine and barium enema after intraintestinal depression by means of a long tube, and she underwent a right hemicolectomy. From the histopathological findings showing the coexistence of cancerous leions composed of adenomatous and squamocellular components, the lesion was diagnosed as adenosquamous carcinoma. According to our investigation, 38 and 40 patients with adenosquamous carcinoma of the large intestine have been reported in Japan and other countries, respectively, and three of these patients had a complaint of ileus.
