Abstract

An article on "Teratology" inThe Journalof October 20, by Dr. Joseph Jones, of Lousiana, describes the case of John H. Allen, whose sexual organs were so abnormally developed as to make it uncertain whether testicles were present at all. Some of the peculiarities there mentioned are present in the following case, and taken together the two are interesting. The case is that of a Scandinavian, who, in the early part of 1887, attempted to enlist in the U. S. Navy as a seaman. When he undressed for the physical examination, which the writer conducted, the following facts were noted: He was apparently 24 years old, 5 feet 8 inches in height, weighed about 160 pounds, with a chest measurement of about 37 inches, and was of blonde type and in apparent perfect health.
