Abstract
In an attempt to justify research efforts in various branches of science, scholars have tried to capture the essence of the relevant subject-matters in a def inition, or at least have declared these subject-matters to exist. Otherwise the study of topics in the branches would be of questionable value, to say the least. For example, when dealing with numbers, their ontological status somehow has to be declared.
