Abstract

What do you enjoy most about it? What I have always loved about being a CCN is that it is a different job every day. Some days the focus is on clinical care and support of individual children and their families. Some days I am involved in teaching. There are other days when I am involved in more strategic planning work – for instance I recently worked with a group of senior nurses in developing our NHS trust’s nursing strategy. Following my recent appointment through the charity WellChild and the University of Hertfordshire I am about to embark on some empirical research, interviewing nurses, parents and perhaps children. One of my biggest frustrations is the lack of research to demonstrate the real differences that CCN’s can make to people’s lives. I will continue to work for the children’s community specialist nursing team which will help enhance the credibility and robustness of the research programme by ensuring it is grounded in clinical practice.
