Abstract
Troedrhiwlas (Troed-y-rhiwlas, ‘the foot of the green hill’) lies on the north side of the Rheidol valley, some two miles south-east of Capel Bangor, in the township of Cwmrheidol. It is four and-a-half miles west of the Devil's Bridge, the celebrated falls on the tributary Afon Mynach, where the river turns sharply to the west and the sea, and opposite the last of a series of minor falls and rapids which mark this portion of its course before the valley widens where it is joined by the Melindwr. A cornmill, Felin Fawr, now in ruins, utilized the rapids, which lie on the 100 feet contour. The farm is 300 yards away, just below the 250 feet contour.
