Abstract
Abstract A commercial milk meter has been modified to give an electrical output suitable for data logging by attaching two strips of metal foil to the outside of the measuring cylinder to form a capacitor. A 5 MHz oscillator supplies a voltage divider circuit consisting of the milk capacitor and a low-value resistor in series. When milk rises in the cylinder the capacitance increases, a dicde circuit changes the alternating voltage to direct voltage, and this is displayed on a digital voltmeter which is used to control a tape punch. Alternatively, the change in capacitance may be used to give a frequency-modulated output.
