Abstract
A new Canadian Geomagnetic Reference Field has been produced for epoch 1987. 5. The model uses the latest available data to correct inadequacies in the time terms of the 1985 model. Spherical cap harmonic analysis was again used to model both the secular variation and main field over a spherical cap of half angle 30°. The IGRF 1985 evaluated at 1987. 5 was subtracted from the data prior to the main-field analysis. The maximum spatial index was 16 for the main-field terms and 5 for the integrated secular-variation terms; the maximum temporal degree was 3. The model is applicable to the time interval 1960 to 1990.
