Abstract

Most sensor array processing methods for multiple source localization are sensitive to the errors in the nominal array manifold. Deviations from the true array manifold, especially resulting from sensor positioning errors, can seriously degrade the algorithms’ performance. In this paper, a calibration algorithm to estimate the array sensor positions is proposed. This technique is based on the time delay information of the array outputs using known calibration sources. Furthermore, it is suitable to nonplanar arrays of arbitrary geometries. Some representative computer simulations are presented to illustrate the improved performance in resolution and accuracy for multiple source localization problems using this technique.
