Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter presents a calculation for polarization values of elastic p-3He scattering. From the experimental values phase- shift analyses have been performed several times. However, these analyses have led to ambiguous results. One reason for the ambiguity is the uncertainty of the transition S-matrix elements. Spin correlation parameter is very sensitive on the behaviour of 3P0 S-matrix element. The chapter further describes a theoretical investigation of the elastic p- 3He scattering based on a multichannel resonating group calculation and uses a Hamiltonian, which includes nucleon–nucleon spin-orbit and tensor forces in addition to central forces. Thus, both cross sections and polarization values are obtained. The calculated cross sections and proton polarization values are in good agreement with the experimental cross sections of McDonald, Haeberli and Morrow, and the proton polarization data of Morrow and Haeberli. Experimental results for the 3He polarization and spin correlation parameter are compared to the calculated values.
