Abstract

A novel cage cluster with nine-vertices [Mo 3(μ 3-S)(μ 3-SCH(CO 2CH 3)CHS 2)(μ-OAc) 2(dtp) 3] ( 1) is obtained by the reaction of [Mo 3(μ 3-S)(μ-S) 3(μ-OAc)(dtp) 3(CH 3CN)] ( 2) with methylpropiolate (MP) in acetonitrile containing acetic acid. X-ray crystallography revealed that the open space of the incomplete cubane-type Mo 3S 4 core was covered by a methyl-propiolate ligand through three C–S bonds. Cluster 1 has been characterized by 13C and 1H NMR and electronic spectroscopy.
