Abstract

It is challenging to develop luminescent sensors for detecting toxic volatile organic molecules in view of the environmental security and human health. Hence, one cadmium (II) coordination polymer with the chemical constitution of [Cd3(L)2 (bpe)2(H2O)2]·(H2O)8 (1) has been successfully designed and prepared using a semi-rigid multidentate ligand 4-(2′,3′-Dicarboxylphenoxy) benzoic acid (H3L) and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bpe) as mixed ligands. Single crystal analysis indicates that complex 1 features a 4,4,4-connected net with an unprecedented topology symbol of (42•5•62•8)2 (42•52•6•7)2 (54•82). More importantly, complex 1 is highly luminescent, which makes it excellent sensing platform for detecting Hacac with high sensitivity and selectivity in aqueous media. The crystal structure, C H N analysis, IR analysis, intrinsic photophysical property and possible recognition mechanism toward Hacac has been discussed in detail in this study.
