Abstract

In order to solve the problem of fault identification and location of cable lines in urban areas, a Head and End Measurement (HEM) based cable fault identification and location method is proposed. Starting from the transmission line equation, the voltage and current signals of the head and end are respectively used to calculate the voltage value of the fault point at the same time, and the voltage characteristics under different faults are analyzed to realize the fault identification. Taking a cable with a length of 5km as an example, a simulation model was established in MATLAB. The simulation results showed that the fault location error was less than 1%. At the same time, the method proposed to this paper was not affected by the power grid frequency fluctuations and harmonics. It had good applicability.
