Abstract

Studies of the root canal systems of maxillary molars have increased our awareness primarily of the configuration of the mesiobuccal root and have facilitated the finding, preparing, and filling of a fourth, mesiolingual, canal (1–7). Clinical reports of two distinct palatal roots or a palatal root with two separate canals have also been published (8–11). Variations in the root canal systems of the distobuccal canal have not been reported. This case report concerns a variation in the distobuccal canal, similar to the C-shaped configuration reported in the mandibular molar (12).
