Abstract

AbstractTo construct a wideband microstrip patch antenna, the air‐filled dielectric substrate is used, 3 open slots are loaded perpendicular to the radiating edge of the rectangular patch element, and an asymmetric feed point is selected. The experimental results show that the proposed antenna can achieve a relative bandwidth of >40% when the thickness of the air dielectric substrate is about 0.08 wavelengths. The analysis results indicate that the antenna resonant mechanism at lower frequencies is different from that at higher frequencies. The low frequency radiation is typical linear polarization, while the high frequency radiation has the rotating field characteristic and therefore has large cross polarization component. However, the gain in the working frequency band is above 8.5 dBi, indicating that the proposed antenna has high directivity.
