Abstract
The novel design of ultra-wideband Microstrip patch antenna with small capacitive feed is studied and discussed here. A novel patch has slots across its both radiating and non-radiating edges. A constant radiation pattern with improved bandwidth and gain, for an operating frequency of 4.8GHz can be easily achieved by using this simple configuration of an antenna. A very small feed strip is placed very close to the presented novel patch on the substrate above the ground plane. The model of antenna incorporates the capacitive feed strip which is fed by a coaxial probe by using equivalent approach. The proposed configuration of an antenna can be redesigned for various frequencies in L-, S-and C-band. The different regular shapes of feed strip have been used and studied their effects. The effective parameters such as air gap between the substrate and the ground plane, probe diameter, the distance between the radiator patch and feed strip, and dimensions of the feed strip on the performance of the antenna is discussed.
