Abstract

In this study, a broadband magnetic probe with multi-components measurement characteristics is presented. Two orthogonal detection loops with short-circuit characteristics are introduced into the bottom of the probe to simultaneously sense two orthogonal magnetic-field components. Multiple via fences are used to restrain unwanted electromagnetic modes. Two different vias are used to form these detection loops: a connected via is used as a part of the vertical loop, and a shorted via is used for shorting these detection loops. Due to the existence of these orthogonal loops, the proposed probe is capable of simultaneously measuring two orthogonal magnetic-field components. The working frequency band is from 1 MHz to 18 GHz. The simulated and measured results are shown, compared, and analyzed to demonstrate the design rationality.
