Abstract

AbstractIn this paper, we design and fabricate a broadband interior‐type planar monopole with an omnidirectional radiation pattern over a wide operation band using a slanted feeding shape. It has a measured 10‐dB impedance bandwidth of about 670 MHz (1585–2255 MHz) covering the DCS (digital cordless system, 1710–1880 MHz), PCS (personal communication system, 1850–1990 MHz), and UMTS (universal mobile telecommunication system, 1920–2170 MHz) bands. The slanted feeding shape can obtain the compensation of the input reactance and reduce the antenna height. This planar monopole antenna has a height of only 15 mm and can provide more space for the system ground plane in mobile handsets. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
