Abstract

Summary A brief history of the manufacture of board, including pasteboard, Bristol board and London board is given. This is linked to the development of modem conservation and museum board considered suitable for the preservation of works of art on paper. Definitions and clarification for some misleading terminology associated with marketing literature for boards are given. Various specifications for board content and quality are discussed.
