Abstract

Single-atom catalysts (SACs), have desired single metal atoms / active sites, that significantly enhanced kinetics for targeted reactions, such as environmental applications in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) in Fenton-like/E-Fenton, photocatalysis and PEC (photo-electrochemical) systems for pollutants removal, and carbon emission reduction and carbon neutrality via Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), via oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cell and/or via CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) and Nitrogen/nitrate reduction reaction (NRR). The progress in the above research area is briefly summarized and investigated. The performances depend on the metal element, support substrate, and coordination status shaped in preparation. In fuel cells, the hydrogen production and the electrochemical reduction of O2 and CO2, SACs, especially bemetallic SACs, all demonstrated great potential.
