Abstract

Were there any changes from beginning to end in Zhu Yuanzhang's relations with the Yuan Dynasty? Although the question of what thinking caused these changes has recently been discussed in some scholars' articles, the discussions seem too sketchy and some of the arguments are open to question. Here I would argue that Zhu Yuanzhang's relations with the Yuan Dynasty underwent three phases based on the rise and fall of his military strength: preparing to surrender, friendly intercourse, and summoning [the Yuan dynasty to] surrender.
