Abstract

A wooden boomerang was found in a rockshelter in the Laura area in July 1981 by an Earthwatch expedition led by the authors. The rockshelter is on the Koolburra Plateau, about 55 km north of the Palmer River and 46 km west-northwest of Laura. The site is on the upper reaches of the northern branch of Lakes Creek, in a very remote, rugged area and the nearest road or track is more than 12 km away. The possibility that this boomerang was left by a European visitor can be discounted with virtually complete certainty.
