Abstract
AbstractRecent archaeological investigations confirm the existence of a Greek settlement in SW Taurica in the late 6th c. B.C., probably a joint enterprise undertaken by the Dorian city of Heraclea and the Ionian town of Sinope. The reliable find at Chersonesus of the lid of a large black-figure Boeotian lekanis of the 3rd quarter of the 6th c. B.C. is the first on the Northern Black Sea coast. It is suggested that this vessel could have been brought to Taurica in the last quarter of the 6th c. B.C. by a Heraclean colonist who originally came from Boeotia.
