Abstract

In this issue, Goldenberg et al present a large and thorough evaluation of stillbirths delivered between 2018 and 2020 in study hospitals in India and Pakistan. For stillborn singletons ≥ 20 weeks' gestation (n=872; 357 from India, 515 from Pakistan), a detailed review of demographics, prenatal complications, and medical history was undertaken and combined with histologic placental examination, surface photographic evaluation of the fetus, and an extensive infectious workup of over 75 known viral, bacterial or parasitic pathogens from placental and cord blood samples.
