Abstract

A blocking technique for large scale structural analysis problems which utilizes the stiffness method is presented. The basic subroutines which form 1. (a) the structure stiffness matrix 2. (b) modify the structure matrix for boundary conditions 3. (c) decompose the modified stiffness matrix 4. (d) the righth and side 5. (e) perform the backward substitution for the unknown displacements are discussed in detail. These subroutines, which are presented in conjunction with a plane truss analysis, can be used in any frame analysis or in any finite element analysis in which each joint(node) has the same number of displacements. Calculations for a plane truss broken into four blocks are presented in detail.
