Abstract

A block-placement method for a rectangular block based on a balloon model is proposed. In this method, the overlaps among blocks that appear in the initial placement can be removed naturally by expanding the blocks just as toy balloons. Since the directions of the rectangular blocks are determined in the placement process such that the dead spaces are decreased, one can minimize the wire length and the area of the carrier simultaneously. Experimental results show that this method gives better solutions than the previous one. >
