A Bibliography of Jazz Poetry Criticism

Abstract

We have assembled this bibliography to address a gap in the recent publication of materials relating to music and literature. Although there are recent bibliographic tools on the subject of and fiction (cf. Richard N. Albert, An Annotated Bibliography of Jazz Fiction and Jazz Fiction Criticism [Westport, CT: Greenwood, 1996]), there is at present no comparable general aide for the study of and poetry. In offering a guide to poetry criticism, the following bibliography should be considered a companion piece to Sascha Feinstein's A Bibliographic Guide to Jazz Poetry (Westport, CT: Greenwood, 1998), a useful and exhaustive index of jazz poems in English. By bringing together materials from a wide range of sources--including anthologies, books, dissertations, journalism, critical essays, interviews, liner notes, and reviews-we hope to provide a resource for future critical work on the subject.
