Abstract

A great deal of iaw-related information can be found on the Internet. The text of decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court and the federal appellate courts can be located online. The U.S. Code is available online as well. State legislative and judicial material is becoming increasingly available. Search engines are steadily improving, giving researchers greater confidence in the results of their queries. Moreover, a large number of Web sites are devoted to specific areas of law. This article will discuss a sampling of the Internet sites related to legal matters and provide the reader with the tools necessary to conduct further research. The article cautions that information found on the Web is not as authoritative as material obtained through “conventional” legal research. Before researchers rely on information found via the Internet, they should verify it through more traditional sources.
