Abstract

In this paper, a novel bend-resistant large mode area fiber with pixelated trench-assisted segmented cladding is proposed and investigated. This structure has large mode area and excellent higher order modes (HOMs) suppression. Numerical results show, when the bending radius is 20 cm and the operating wavelength is 1.06μm, the effective mode area of the fiber can reach 914μm2 and the loss ratio between lowest-HOMs and fundamental mode is larger than 100. In addition, the proposed optical fiber is insensitive to the bending direction. This fiber has great potential in high power fiber lasers and amplifiers.
