Abstract

T HIS STUDY is an examination of the affectional, or more particularly, the romantic attitudes of people, and the construction of a scale for measuring them. It is assumed that these attitudes form a frame of reference within which social life is viewed. If they are a part of contemporary American culture, then a study of that culture should reveal the contexts and limits within which they exist.
