Abstract

A scintillation counter hodoscope, constructed from three stacks of plastic scintillator strips and a system of plexiglass light pipes leading to ten photomultipliers, is described. A remotely operated mechanical shutter allows for selection of the scintillators for measurement of high-energy particle beam profiles in the vertical plane with resolution 2 mm or 5 mm per channel, and in the horizontal plane with resolution 5 mm per channel. The individual responses of all channels were adjusted to be equal within 5% limits and, in the fast ejected beam (spill time 10 ns-0.6 μs), a set of gated integrators with digital output was used. For longer beam spill time a set of 10 Mc/s gated discriminators triggered by the total flux monitoring counters was employed.
