Abstract

Today, historical dramas have greeted its prime time, mostly because of the commercial potential, quality of work, cultural ripple effect, stable audience ratings and popularity. Costume production condition of historical dramas have a difference in the past, also designed costumes is different from traditional costumes and shows a different characteristic. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the development of the custumes which has a great influence on the concentration levels and completeness of the historical dramas by providing practical guidelines for the costume production process and methods of historical drama. To that end, organize concepts, classifications, transition, present condition and custume production process of historical drama. Then analyzed its characteristic that appears in each part. As a method of study, theoretical consideration about historical drama and costume was combined with the empirical analysis through the visual and real data. And with the description based on the work experience of researcher, this study was conducted an inspection of the incumbent designers. Range of study was limited to historical dramas aired eight times over in the form of a soap opera since 2010 until now. As a result, the type of historical drama is largely classified as authentic historical drama and modern historical drama (criteria for classification is based on how much more it reflects the historical fact), and the modern historical drama is divided into faction drama and fiction drama. Production process of costume of historical dramas proceed to the planning phase and the making and monitoring phase. The planning phase in detail include setting budgets, refining the concept and historical research stage. Making and monitoring phase is subdivided into costume design, costume making, monitoring phase. Considering the characteristics for the production of historical dramas was organized in functionality of wearing, stability of form, ease of removal, changing size adjustability, effectiveness of the performance and uniqueness of production. For the future study I would suggest further research into the ongoing analysis and summary of the actual costume making of historical dramas production areas.
