Abstract

Since the inception of color TV twenty-five years ago, there has been a continual improvement in the performance and features available in consumer television receivers. Advancements in circuit and device technologies have made their way from the research laboratories into consumer products as economics has permitted. So it is that now the circuit techniques of comb filtering, which have been known for decades, have become viable in consumer TV through the recent advancements in charge coupled devices and in MOS integrated circuits. These technologies can now be married with TV circuit designs to open new realms of picture resolution, freedom from interference between the luminance and chrominance signals and a new dimension of picture sharpness through the addition of vertical detail enhancement.
