Abstract

Abstract A new method which uses B‐spline theoretical approach in the design of a computer‐aided animation system is presented. The method is a combination of three aspects: the B‐spline theory and algorithms, the fuzzy set theory and interactive fuzzy programs, and software for static and dynamic graphics display. The basic technique employed is to generate whole set of the animated 2‐D shapes of a motion in which only the first and the last shapes are built by the animators, the rest are generated automatically. The benefits of this method are an instantaneous response and an immediate verification and editing of a dynamic motion being displayed. Illustrated examples are also given to reveal key features of the method.
