Abstract

A 5-week-old girl presented to the emergency department with a 2-day history of progressive lethargy, irritability, poor feeding, and vomiting. The infant had 3 episodes of nonprojectile, nonbilious emesis (without evidence of gross blood) during the 24 hours preceding ED arrival. The baby’s mother reported that her child was inconsolable and exhibited intermittent extremity flailing. The infant was afebrile and continued to have normal urine and stool output. On the morning of admission, the baby’s breathing became irregular.
